Maker Spotlight: Kate Hunter
Catherine (Kate) Hunter is a contemporary jeweller, object maker and environmental installation artist, living in Cairns, Queensland, working full-time in her studio practise since 2013.
Born in Coffs Harbour NSW, Kate has a Bachelor of Design: Jewellery and Metalsmithing and a Nautical Science Degree.
With a fascination for natural and unnatural materials, ancient crafts and traditional processes, Kate works with metals, ceramics, fibres, textiles and found objects. Her jewellery and installation pieces are visual narratives of nature's struggles and triumphs, evoking feelings of being from the natural world, each piece crafted by hand to tell an intended story.
