My work was inspired by the Trinacria - symbol of Sicily, where my parents were born. The island is my birth-ancestry. My father appeared in a dream after he passed away in 1998. It looked like he was back on the island. The long creative process of sculpting helped me realise my ancestry, cope with grief and arrive at acceptance. The hand portrays benevolence and gestures acceptance. The foot represents travel and harmonious settlement. This sculpture is a monument to honour my parents for their continued support in my creative endeavours.
