Castanospermum australe is native to rainforests. Its seedpod contains 1-5 large seeds. Aboriginal people learnt to leach out toxic saponins, before pounding the seeds into flour to make damper. Castanospermine is now extracted from the seed and used in modern day medicine. Found in NSW, QLD.
