These books/artworks were created during a state of mindfulness/hyperfocus concentrating on DBT skills of ‘Participate’, where one is fully present and engaged in the present moment. The skills that this ‘Participation’ addresses encourage self-awareness, goal setting or knowing where you are heading in your life, whilst addressing one’s inability to control what is going on in one’s own mind, your thoughts and emotions.
Participation encourages the individual to take control.
The books use symbols that I have been using for twenty years in my work. The Cuckoo (craziness), the cross (x marks the spot signifying treasure, whilst a reminder of the opposite; a teacher marks a student’s work with an x or cross to state an incorrect answer), medication, human hands to signify both vulnerability and skilfulness for example.
