MEET THE MAKER

For the past 19 years Jo Hollier has been a full time practising artist/ printmaker based in Canberra, ACT Australia, with a studio located at the edge of the city. She is a prominent figure in supporting the arts in the ACT and Australia, and also teaches drawing, painting, etching and printmaking. 

During this time she has built on her arts practice and  participated in practical ways within the arts community. She has been involved at committee level at Strathnairn Arts Association Executive committee and with the Wildlife and Botanical Artists (ACT) in various executive and management capacities.  Through this involvement she has played a major part in coordinating exhibitions and events which promote the activities of members within these artists groups. 

Drawing is the basis of Hollier’s art making; ideas for prints are born from her original sketches. The drawing evolves from pencil and paper to acid and zinc or some other print medium. Even though Jo also loves to paint and collage, printmaking is the core of her work.

Jo Hollier’s work has been widely exhibited both within Australia and internationally, through 16 solo and numerous group and selected exhibitions. Most notably Jo was the recipient of the Canberra’s Critics Circle award for Visual arts in 2013 with her exhibition “Process and Possibility” and the Tall Foundation Inaugural Art prize for 3 D work in at the Tuggeranong Art Prize 2015. More recently Jo’s etchings of critically endangered bird species has been selected to “On the Edge: Species at Risk”  on exhibition at The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney in 2022.
