This print is a riff on the biennial tradition of Canberrans losing their minds after hearing a weather forecast that mentions the possibility of snowfall in the inner suburbs (as if we can ever hope for more than a drizzle of flakes that melt on impact). I wanted this print's focus to be as much on the colours and textures of mokuhanga materials as on the figurative content, which required a departure from my usual style in favour of simple, telling shapes. This print was carved from 3 blocks of shina plywood using knives, chisels and gouges. Diluted gouache and tapioca starch were applied to the blocks using traditional brushes, with prints taken by hand using a bamboo baren.
