I first realised the demonic potential of the National Carillon when I saw it lit up at night in blood-red floodlights. While the title reflects my original intention for this print to be a Lord of the Rings/illustrated fantasy novel homage, the scarlet and metallic palette seems to have snuck in from the corner of my brain that loves the retro science-fantasy video game aesthetic. This is a reduction linocut, which means that the same block of linoleum is carved and printed over and over (in this case, 6 times to achieve 6 layers of colour). The white stars are the colour of the paper peeking out between those layers of ink. I printed this design over the course of several months on a 100-year-old Albion book press at Megalo Print Studio in Kingston.
