Bohemian glass paddle trade beads, Kankamba trade beads..
mm high
54mm wide
mm deep
I had an idea to make a piece representing a shrinking waterhole, as wild animals are disastrously affected by drought. I used these old Bohemian glass beads that were traded to Africa, and in the process saw they resembled waves or sand dunes. Each bead has a story of its own – and we can only imagine who traded them, wore them, saved them. But lucky they did, as it now has a new incarnation with its own story.
