Recycled handpaiante glass, hemp, Moroccan silver

Africa has always had gold, but it didn’t know how to make glass, which was imported for centuries from Venice and Bohemia in the form of trade beads. Now people in Ghana attempt to mimic the Venetian beads. Though the result is entirely different in pattern and construction, and every bead unique, they have formed a thriving recycled glass bead industry with its own charm, design and culture.
Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
