Sue Hewat is a ceramic artist living and working in Canberra. Her work continues to be an interpretation of the layers, lines and threads that are seen in the sea or landscape. This wheel thrown stoneware bottle and four beakers are inlayed with thin strips of coloured nerikomi porcelain, formed using a palette of colours and shapes indicative of the essence of the beach. Having worked with clay for many years, in 2015 Sue attained a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Ceramics) from the Australian National University, School of Art and Design. She was awarded a three month residency at Strathnairn Arts and three Emerging Artist Support Scheme exhibitions were successfully undertaken during 2016. Sue has exhibited in several group exhibitions. 2015 highlights include Delineations, at Form Gallery, Queanbeyan; BeLonging (work selected by The Australian Ceramics Association as part of the Australian Ceramics Triennale) and Protean, at the Nishi Gallery in Canberra. In 2017 selected exhibitions included City of Design: Craft ACT Annual Members Exhibition and Shine Dome Re-imagined as part of Craft ACT Design Festival. In 2018 Sue exhibited at MU Gallery, Sydney. This exhibition, Mutabilis successfully showcased ceramic work from five members of Claybodies Canberra. Craft ACT members exhibition PlaceMakers was another selected exhibition opportunity and in November, Suki & Hugh Gallery, Bungendore, hosted Time and Tide, an exhibition of ceramics by Sue Hewat and paintings by Sara Freeman. In 2019 Sue was selected to exhibit in Visionaries, the Craft ACT Members Exhibition and also Hold at Belconnen Arts Centre. She was again selected to exhibit in the 2020 Craft ACT member’s exhibition, Care of, opening in October. www.suehewat.com.au
