Pteridium esculentum has thin starchy rhizomes which were harvested from late summer to autumn and eaten raw, roasted or beaten into a paste. The roots could also be made into a tea to treat stomach aches, cramps, chest pains, diarrhoea, colds and to expel worms. Found in all states of Australia.
