In a beautiful example of mutualism, the eastern bettong uses long native grasses to form daytime nests and at night, dig numerous holes while foraging that are the perfect shape to encourage the germination of native grass seeds. But this is just one of the many roles that native grasses take in the box-gum grassy woodland. Its really quite impressive for a plant we typically walk all over.
