Daniel Venables is a multidisciplinary artist and knifemaker based in Belconnen, ACT. Working with ceramic, glass, wood, and steel, he designs objects and tools intended to enrich the daily rituals of cooking and eating. He is known for his heirloom culinary knives, which are forged using a blend of Eastern and Western traditions, modern steelmaking, and handles crafted from reclaimed Australian hardwoods.
After graduating with First Class Honours from the ANU School of Art and Design in 2017, Dan has exhibited his work nationally. His custom glass and culinary knives are highly regarded by chefs and food enthusiasts and are used in acclaimed restaurants. Because of his skills across various materials, he is frequently sought for fabrication projects including limited editioned objects and large chandeliers, as well as complex pieces for other artists. While continuing his love of cooking, Dan works from his home studio forge and teaches glassblowing at the Canberra Glassworks.
