Isobel Rayson is a multidisciplinary artist based in Carwoola, NSW, working primarily with wall-based relief wood carvings. Using slow, repetitive processes, her practice centres on the physical experience of making to explore ideas of fragility and impermanence, along with the human instinct for order and protection. The resulting works encourage slow looking, offering moments of quiet focus and reflection.
Since graduating from the ANU School of Art with First Class Honours in 2014, Isobel has held fifteen solo exhibitions across Australia. Along with international residencies in places like Vancouver Island, her work has gained national recognition; in 2025 alone, she won the Hazelhurst Young and Early Career Artist Award and was a finalist in twelve national prizes. Her work is collected privately in Australia and Japan. Isobel is currently preparing for her solo exhibition at Sevenmarks Gallery, Kiama, opening in May 2026, which will feature new works on paper, relief wood carvings, bronze castings, and an installation.
