Unique state
Porcelain prints, monoprint on paper, recycled hardwood framing
780mm high
745mm wide
50mm deep

Nature’s Cabinet of Parts represents a collective of experiments created using hybrid linocut printmaking and ceramic processes. Each individual ‘part’ – studies in textures, patterns and forms found in nature – contributes to this cabinet of natural curiosities. The installation is housed within a recycled hardwood structure – an old timber fence given new life – assembled into a deliberately irregular cabinet reminiscent of early museum displays and their eclectic arrangements of specimens.
A dark monoprinted backdrop of branching forms crosses the boundaries of the cabinet’s frames, visually stitching the installation together. The objects within it are varied: soft rosella wings, the knobbly surface of the Macleay River turtle’s shell, the ancient form and textured skin of an emu’s foot, and a tribute to the now extinct Derwent River seastar, Australia’s first officially documented marine extinction. Several pieces are made through slipcasting, further expanding the material vocabulary of the collection. Together, these works form a contemporary cabinet of parts that reflects curiosity, care, and the layered stories held within the natural world.

Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed.
