Rhythm, repetition and movement are the fundamental principles behind Sarah Murphy's work. She uses repetition as a play between worlds of colour, movement and shape. In life, we experience repetition every day; the simple act of walking, breathing or the sound of our own heartbeat. With every gesture or movement of the human body, random yet syncopated patterns are generated.
The use of repetition in Sarah's work creates structure. Structure gives us a sense that we are in control of our own existence. She enjoys creating jewellery with these characteristics while exploring how this might affect the relationship between the wearer, the viewer and the piece itself.
The excitement of starting a new project and overcoming the challenges encountered throughout the making process leads to the final sense of satisfaction when the finished object can be held, worn and admired.
