flameworked borosilicate glass, Schoenoplectus validus (river club rush)
770mm high
200mm wide
240mm deep

Justine McLaren is a glass artist based between her studio in ANCA Mitchell and Canberra Glassworks. Her practice nurtures miniature ecosystems of water plants within hand-crafted borosilicate glass vessels. Typically used in scientific laboratories, this unusually clear and durable glass becomes a lens through which aquatic plants can be closely observed as they grow and evolve. Justine holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from ANU, majoring in sculpture, and has trained in glassblowing and flameworking at Poatina Arts Tasmania, Canberra Glassworks and CERFAV France. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and is a finalist in the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize. justinemclarenart.com.au @justinemclarenart
