Textiles
650mm high
270mm wide
5mm deep
This series of textile panels is made from digitally printed photographs of snow gums, red gums, scribbly gums and spotted gums growing on the Yuin, Ngarigo, Walgalu, Wiradjuri and Ngunnawal country. Repeated designs echo the seasons, patterns and structures of the living landscape. White wedges stand for the structures of settler colonialism: government, law, policy, attitudes, mindsets and behaviours. Like an axe in timber or a thorn in the flesh, they are ways of thinking that do not serve us. As trees do, the patterns grow around the wedges and overtake them, swirling into rivers and country, vibrant and eternal. These works point toward a decolonised, sustainable future in connection with country.
Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
