Photograhy
420mm high
297mm wide
5mm deep
This piece came from an incident where I was called a “colonial Nazi” due to my British background. It highlighted how prejudice is based upon casual generalisations not the individual. To clarify: I’m NOT comparing my minor experiences to the traumatic, destructive discrimination faced by so many today. In subverting my portrait - white, male, migrant - echoing ‘mugshots’ of convicts and incarcerated Indigenous peoples during colonisation, I hope to show every migrant – whatever creed, colour, gender – is an INDIVIDUAL. Making assumptions based on previous generations or current media bias, risks being guilty of prejudice oneself, even seemingly trivial misdemeanours.
Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
