Acylic and metal leaf on canvas
305mm high
305mm wide
35mm deep
The Australian magpie has been a close companion since my first days in Australia, back in 2017. Whilst painting, they fly into my home and have become close friends that have bound me to this beautiful and wild continent. There are two pairs that spend lots of time perched together on my balcony balustrade. They sing and watch over the landscape, whose earth tones form the backdrop to the birds in the painting. The silvery metal leaf towards the upper parts of the painting are reflections from Lake Burley Griffin's glassy surface.
