This Artwork is based on a “Traditional Drumbeater” (in Sinhala Language - “Berawaya”), is dressed up with a traditional costume and a Traditional Drum (in Sinhala Language - “Beraya”).  The history of the Sri Lankan Drums are going back to thousands of years. There are various shapes and types of drums. In Sri Lanka, these Drumbeaters are used for various Occasions, Opening Ceremonies, Festivals, Processions and Traditional Dancing.  Normally, dancers will dance according to the drumbeat or the tune.  You can see these Drumbeaters are playing drums in many Sri Lankan Festivals in Australia and specially, in our Canberra too.

Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
