Barbara Rogers has worked with shibori since the late 1980’s, originally training and working in fashion design in Sydney. Rogers has exhibited nationally and internationally, and participated in the last six World Shibori Symposia. In 2005 she exhibited in ARTWEAR – Fashion and Anti-fashion at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. Her works are in numerous private and public collections.
Shibori is a traditional resist dye technique. These techniques are reworked into unique textile artworks. While initially appearing quite precise, the unpredictable nature of the shibori processes employed means that final patterns are always subtly varied with rhythms constantly disrupted in a process of adding and subtracting, masking and revealing.
