Altar cloth, hand embroidery, silk, braid
870mm high
2620mm wide
mm deep
This altar cloth came from a convent in rural Victoria. Although there is no suggestion that nuns from this location were involved in child sexual abuse, religious sisters were found to be perpetrators or silent bystanders in a number of cases. I have embroidered the cloth with a quote by Archbishop Christopher Prowse, from the Royal Commission Final Report. It is an acknowledgement that the Church has in some respects, admitted its guilt.
Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
