Saggar-fired stoneware
165mm high
190mm wide
190mm deep
The Counterpoint series investigates how physical actions can be exemplified through the ceramic vessel. The desire to engage in a lived, bodily experience is my primary concern. Ceramics is an innately tactile medium, and it is this materiality which draws me to working with clay. I am heavily influenced by the opposition between nature and culture, which is realised in the work as the counterpoint between material and body, exterior and interior, wheelthrown and handbuilt. I further reinforce the nature/culture dichotomy by saggar-firing my work: a process which emphasises the surface textures while producing irregular, organic results.
Please note, this artwork is currently on exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre and will not be available for pick-up or delivery until the exhibition has closed. Please check the Belco Arts website for exhibition dates.
